Emilia’s Nursery

I LOVE decorating a Nursery – they’re my favorite rooms in my house and just so cozy and comforting. When we found out we were having our first girl, I wanted pink, it’s my favorite color and, while cliché, I just knew I would do lots of pink accents everywhere. So when we found out we were having our second girl(our third child), I wanted something not pink.

When decorating a room, I find that it’s better to go shopping and find some inspiration to build around as opposed to choosing a color scheme and building from there. We have a really large Home Goods in the area but it’s hit or miss. We started there and got really lucky. I found a mint colored mirror that I love, I put a mirror in all my babies rooms, its such a nice focal point. I also found some adorable paisley, mint based curtains – I love paisley’s! And lastly, my daughter found this large purple, sparkly butterfly print. She had to have it for her baby sister, so it was settled, our colors would be mint and purple.

We had decided that we would use the crib and dresser from my older daughters room as we had tried to convert her bed to a full size bed, only to be super disappointed as to how difficult this was. I had some different ideas for her room and decided to make her a custom headboard and redo an older dresser for her (more to come on that). So we knew the crib and dresser would be white.

So onto choosing paint colors. My least favorite part. There are too many decisions to make with paint colors. I tend to lean towards greys in my house so i knew i wanted to stay in the grey family and was hoping for a grey that would have purple tones. We went to Sherwin Williams quite a few times and finally settled on Evening Shaddow, its a light grey that can take on a mildly purple hue and i’m so happy with it!

Once that was done, I was on the hunt for finishing touches. This poor baby will have very few new things of her own so i really wanted to make her room, hers. I love making things for their rooms. We had almost decided on her name and i really wanted a floral “E”. I was into making wreaths once upon a time so i had a bucket of silk flowers and was able to pull some really pretty ones that weren’t all purple and mint but had some of those touches and i love the way it turned out.

I took the mirror, these great baskets and this flower from the Cloud Island Collection at Target as well as a few other pieces and created a wall collage for over the changing table. The cross holds a special meaning as it was my great grandma’s and my grandparents gave it to me quite a few years ago. I’ve been holding onto it for something special and my little Emmy Grace seemed like the perfect thing.

I created wall letters to go over her crib. I wanted them to be really pretty and found some great scrapbook paper and the perfect adornments at Hobby Lobby to compliment them.

Sweet big sister wanted to help me make something for her sisters room, so we made a crib skirt. I don’t find it very imporant to have more than a few crib sheets and a crib skirt for the room. It’s tempting to buy the whole bed set, but it’s completely unnecessary. So we made a crib skirt out of some really pretty purple butterfly fabric. I followed this very helpful tutorial from View Along the Way.

I’ve been wanting to do some floating book shelves since i had my first daughter. I got these great shelves at Ikea and am thrilled with how they look. I wish my wall space was a bit bigger as Ikea has a larger size but this worked and it’s super affordable!

Overall i’m thrilled with how the room turned out. It’s peaceful and has been such a happy space for our sweet Emilia Grace.
